Cheap notebooks - by which we mean those that cost $ 1000 or less - have been available for the past few years, and they are changing the way laptops are used to a certain extent. Laptop computers or notebooks used to be very expensive - approximately twice the price of a desktop computer. It was hard to get a good laptop for under $ 4000, which meant that those who had them really needed them. The laptop computer was primarily a business tool. With today's cheap notebooks, however, all that has changed. Today they are very accessible, more convenient than ever, and available to people with all kinds of needs and lifestyles.

While it's certainly true that you get what you pay for - that is, more expensive laptops or notebooks will have significantly more features, and it may be necessary to pay more if your needs are greater - cheap notebooks aren't really 'cheap' in terms of quality. Most come from reputable companies. Any laptop, even a 'cheap' one, is an investment and should be selected with care.

Cheap notebooks are, naturally enough, popular with students - and these students are getting younger and younger! Nowadays, it's not unheard of for an elementary school student to have a laptop of his or her own - something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. Of course, it does make sense for a student to have his or her own notebook for writing essays, notes and assignments. Others use laptops as a portable entertainment center, because most will play CDs and DVDs. In short, given the right circumstances, cheap computers may well be just as useful as more expensive ones.
