A laptop case is a must if you travel with your portable computer, whether on a daily basis or just once in a while. Though students often put their laptops in a knapsack (hopefully one that is specially designed for computers!) your needs may be greater if you travel extensively with your computers. These are briefcase-like cases especially designed to hold a laptop or notebook; often, the metal is given an attractive finish, and the case itself has slick detailing and a comfortable shoulder strap that can be detached. Inside, a strap holds your laptop in place inside the case. These types of laptop cases offer maximum protection for your computer, particularly if it's likely to be jostled about while you are traveling.

If a metal case isn't for you, durable laptop cases also come in leather and canvas. Here, though, you have to choose carefully. Some leather and canvas bags are made specifically for laptops, and others aren't. There has to be enough padding to keep you computer cushioned in immobile, and the entire computer should fit inside the case. Finally, to select a truly durable laptop case, pay attention to the stitching and the overall quality of the case.
