After you purchase your laptop computer, one of the first things you have to consider is your choice of laptop carrying case. A specialized case for laptops is the only safe way to transport your computer. Don't be tempted to slide your laptop into a knapsack or tote bag that isn't made to transport computers. A good quality laptop carrying case can be a little more expensive than a standard briefcase of backpack, but it's well worth it - it's the safest way to protect your investment.
There are several features that make a laptop carrying case safe for transporting your computer. First of all, the laptop must be in a padded or insulated compartment, so that it doesn't get jostled or knocked about. Keep in mind that a laptop is considerably more delicate than a desktop computer because the hardware is so small and intricate. Your laptop must be protected from blows and from any sort of moisture.
It is important that your laptop carrying case is big enough for your computer. Laptops come in different sizes, so make sure that your computer fits inside the laptop carrying case completely, with no part of it sticking out. If the case is large enough to accommodate other things, such as books or stationary supplies, and particularly if it's hard-sided, make sure that there are straps to hold your computer securely in place. You don't want it knocking around inside a large hard-sided case! Finally, consider your own comfort - though laptops are quite light, they can start to feel heavy pretty quickly, so make sure that your laptop carrying case has wide, comfortable straps.
