Laptop DVD burners are a popular item nowadays. A laptop accessory that is almost a must-have for those whose primary laptop use is entertainment, laptop DVD burners allow you to copy downloaded or recorded material, or to copy existing DVDs. Though there are legal issues involved with copying DVDs, many people feel justified in doing so.
Actually, there are several legal uses for laptop DVD burners. For one thing, it may be possible to copy commercial DVDs legally - a loophole allows the burning of 'backup' or 'archival' copies of the DVDs that you own. You're not supposed to use your burner to make copies of DVDs that you rent, and you aren't supposed to sell copies of commercial DVDs that you make.
That having been said, it's undeniable that burning DVDs at home (especially copying commercial DVDs) will probably remain controversial for some time to come. It's a similar issue to that of downloading music from the internet. Things that were never meant to become public domain now are, because of advancing technology. In the meantime, investing in laptop DVD burners is getting cheaper all the time, and is not a bad idea. You can use your DVD burner at your own discretion.
