When to Upgrade or Replace a Laptop Motherboard
Your laptop motherboard (also called a 'mobo' or system board) is the main circuit board, allowing the computer to receive power and connecting the various and diverse functions of your system. No computer would be able to function without a motherboard, though in an of itself it is an inexpensive and unassuming piece of hardware. Under certain circumstances it may be necessary to replace a laptop motherboard.
Your laptop motherboard does have the potential to last for as long as your computer does. It is upgradeable, so memory can be added to it, as can certain other features. The motherboard of your computer contains ports, CPU, and the controllers for all peripheral devices such as the display screen and keyboard. Barring physical damage to your computer, these should last for as long as the computer itself does.
On the other hand, certain core features are not upgradeable, and if you find that you require them, having a new laptop motherboard installed is certainly much less costly than buying a whole new computer. Prices vary somewhat according to the make and model of your computer and the type of motherboard you are purchasing, but many motherboards can be purchased for no more than $ 100 or so. Of course, unless you are qualified to install the motherboard yourself, you will also have to pay labor costs but all in all, this is an affordable way to prolong the life and boost the usefulness of you computer.
